New Year, New Church

As we ring in 2007, we'll also soon be ringing in a new era in the life of St. Andrew's United Church of Christ. First, we welcome a new pastor, Rev. Robert Summers. Dr. Bob (as he likes to be called) has 24 years experience as a pastor, most recently including ten years as pastor of the United Church of Byron; Illinois. I'm sure I speak for many when I say that I look forward to seeing (and hearing) him at our pulpit.

Most of our building renovations are complete, and the rest should be finished fairly soon. ff you haven't seen the fellowship hall's new roof, ceiling, windows, and entryway, please stop in some time and check them out. And construction continues on an elevator and upgrades to bathrooms to allow better handicapped access throughout the building. Thanks go out to Mike Vail, who acted as contractor and juggled the many (not always 100% compatible) requirements of multiple work crews. Kudos also to the Youth Group, who raised funds to add a canopy to our new entryway.

We'll also work on "getting our church's purpose back" with a new Christian Education program in 2007. We're planning anew set of study groups, using The Purpose Driven Church by Pastor Rick Warren. Many of you attended and enjoyed the 2004 study groups that used The Purpose Driven Life, al so by Pastor Warren and we're hopingyou'11 find this new program as informative and inspiring as the prior program.

So as we welcome the New Year, we've got a lot to anticipate. It's sure to be a great year at St. Andrew's. Happy New Year!

Ray Lowery

Dear Friends of St. Andrews

As of December 31st. I am tendering my resignation as the Director of Music at St. Andrews United Church of Christ.

Kathie and I are grateful for the four years and two months that God allowed us to serve you. I believe that during this time, we were able to lead a music program of high quality that reflected the great musical heritage of St. Andrews.

I wish to especially thank the Senior Choir for their incredible faithfulness and support during this time. Their consistent Sunday anthems and special musical presentations will always be in our hearts. They have responded to every challenge and together we have grown together as a family. Kathie and I will miss you greatly.

We will continue to pray for you and ask for your prayers.

Thank you.In His Love
Rich Kifer

Thank You, Bob and Selma Mast!

We want to publicly express our gratitude to Bob and Selma Mast for their service to St. Andrew's Church over the past ten years. The administrative staff and consistory members respectfully refer to Bob and Selma as "the money counters ". They have carried the responsibility of collecting, counting and depositing the money received on Sunday   mornings (including income received throughout the week) with confidence, honor and respect. In the early fall of 2006, Mr. and Mrs., Mast notified the church of their plans to, "retire" and pass the responsibi1ity on to another individual.

We are happy to announce that Rhea Berry has accepted the assignment that Mr. and Mrs. Mast have previously looked after. Thank you Rhea for agreeing to serve in this important area of church service.

We will continue to enjoy the participation of the Masts in other projects and plans that take place at St. Andrew's they will be missed and have our sincere gratitude for their many years of service.

Thank You For Your Generosity

A big thank you goes to the kind Santas who provided gifts for members of our two adopted families this Christmas. The gifts filled a mini-van and were transported to St. Joseph church where they were prepared for delivery by the Dexter Family Service volunteers and firemen, Lions, and other good Santa-souls.

This year, two families of six were adopted by St. Andrew's and their wish/need lists filled. The challenge of even a pink basketball l was met with smiles, (It is, we know, better to give.)

St. Andrew's Santas include: The f Erdman family, Lil Burby and Gail Tomshany., Audrey Marshall, the Krips family, Janice Clark, Phyllis Ryan, Jerry and Bobbi Fraker, Kelley Faucett, Barb Affholter and Judy Dioszegi, Laura Keefer, and the Otto family.

News from the Goad Shepherds

Attractive Christmas stockings were sewn by the St. Andrew's quilters. They were filled with home made goodies and sacks made by members of the Good Shepherd's Committee: Barb Baldus, Margaret Barrett, Rhea Berry, Bobbi Fraker.

Joyce Waggoner and Ginny Weber.

The Committee delivered the stockings to our church, shut-ins:

Everyone enjoyed the stockings and the visit. A visit from other members of our congregation would be appreciated their addresses can be gotten from the church office or committee members.

A New Year's Wish

May your hair, your teeth, your face-lift, your abs and your stocks not fall. May your blood pressure, your triglycerides, your cholesterol, your white blood count and your mortgage interest not rise.

May you get a clean bill of health from your dentist, your cardiologist, your gastro-endocrinologist, your urologist your proctologist, your podiatrist, your psychiatrist, your plumber and the IRS.

May what you see in the mirror delight you, and what others see in you delight them.

May the telemarketers wait to make their sales calls until you finish dinner, and May your check book and your budget balance, and May they include generous amounts for charity.

May you remember to say "I love you” at least once a day to your spouse, your child, your parent.

May we live as intended, in a world at peace and the awareness of the beauty in every sunset, every flower's unfolding petals, every baby's smile and every wonderful, astonishing, miraculous beat of our heart.
