Ray Dempsey

As remembered by Carl J. Lesser 3/08

Ray came to Detroit from Oregon in the early 1950’s. He and Delma Altenbernt of Dexter met and fell in love at first sight. They were married, came to Dexter and built a house on Joy road. They joined St. Andrew’s and became involved in activities. Ray was a reader of books and was a student of the Bible, He also liked to write poetry. He served as Deacon and Elder as a willing servant as well as Sunday school superintendent. They had three daughters who grew up in St. Andrew’s. his occupation was an automobile body man. After his and Delma’s retirement they moved to Oregon to join the children, Delma said it was only fair that she go and live there because Ray lived here their early years. Ray passed away a few years ago but Delma at 90 plans to visit Dexter in June of 2008and if possible visit us again.

I had the pleasure of serving on the Consistory with Ray at the time of building the Fellowship Hall
