REV. M. DONALD EATON: 1956-1964

After serving three years as pastor of the Salem Church near Evansville, Indiana, the Rev. Eaton came to Dexter and was in­stalled at St. Andrews on October 14, 1956. The following year the church became known as St. Andrew's United Church of Christ. In 1958 all confirmands from the beginning were honored during the seventy-fifth anniversary since the church formally organized. During 1959 and 1960 a new parish hall was erected and dedicated. Neil McShane, son of the James McShanes and members of St. Andrews, was ordained on June 14, 1964 at St. Andrews Church.

The Rev. Eaton left Dexter on August 30, 1964, moving to

Ann Arbor to finish studies for his masters degree at the Univ­ersity of Michigan in American History and to serve the Michigan Conference of the United Church as a substitute pastor.

The son of Charles and Sylvia Eaton of Clinton County, Indiana, Eaton was a graduate from Elmhurst College in 1949 and in June that year was married to Chara Lou Kaufman of Cleveland. In

June 1953 he was graduated from the Eden Seminary. During the years at Eden he was program director for a year in the Y.M.C.A. and assistant pastor to the president of the Missouri Valley Synod for a year. He served as resident student pastor of St. Paul’s Evangelical- and Reformed Church in Old Monroe, Missouri for two years. He was ordained and licensed by the South Indiana Synod.

He and his wife had two sons, Erik and Carry Ray and a dau­ghter, Kenita Lou. The Rev. Eaton died July 27, 1971 and was buried in Mulberry, Indiana where he was a high school graduate.
