![]() REV. KENNYON EDWARDS: 1973-1980 The Rev. Edwards came to Dexter from the Pilgrim St. James United Church of Christ in Buffalo, New York November l, 1973 with his wife Violet and sons Donald and Walter. Shortly after his arrival the original church building was given to the Dexter Area Historical Society for a museum and was moved to the church parking lot beginning in December 1973. The following year the cornerstone laying service for the new church building on the original site took place on Sunday February 17, 1974 On September 15 the new building was dedicated. Pastor Edwards vacated the church parsonage and built a new residence in Webster Township shortly after completion of the new church building. In 1976 a new ushering procedure was adopted. The Rev. Edwards co-ordinated a trip to the Holy Land in 1978. He left St. Andrews in June 1980 to become full time inter-faith chaplain at Merceywood in Ann Arbor, Mich. He earned an A.B. degree from Toronto, Canada in 1958 and attended Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary in 1966, earned an M.A. degree from Rochelle College in Toronto in 1969 and served United Church of Christ churches in Grant, Michigan and the United Church of Christ in Buffalo, New York. |
