The Rev. Schoettle and his wife Selma came from Newberry, Indiana to Dexter in April 1917. His father, the Rev. George Schoettle, was at one time a pastor serving in Manchester, Michigan. The League of Young People was organized during his pastorate, the first Sunday school teachers training classes were begun and the Sunday school was divided into departments. It was felt at this time that more English should be introduced at St. Andrews and confirmation classes in German were discontinued. The Rev. Schoettle left St. Andrews in 1920 to become pastor of a church in Ohio. He was born in Valley City, Ohio January 25, 1883 and was a graduate of Elmhurst College and Eden Seminary. He was ordained in 1908. He and his wife had a son, Herman. After fifty-one years in the ministry, he retired in 1959. In 1963 he went to the Evanqelical Home in Detroit to live. Here he died on June 30, 1971. |
